Rogers County District 2 Commissioner
County infrastructure, rural broadband and the accountability of collective public spending.
Steve Hendrix serves as Rogers County’s District 2 commissioner and represents the county on INCOG’s board. His documented public work includes broadband expansion, road improvements and votes on county-funded services.
Steve Hendrix’s official biography says he graduated from Claremore High School in 1975 and earned a finance degree at Oklahoma State University. It describes ten years in a family excavation business as an owner-operator, a decade in insurance and financial services, and more than ten years at Lowe’s Home Improvement. His insurance work included Prudential Insurance and securities licensing through Pruco Securities; his retail responsibilities included fleet management and safety. These are attributed career statements. The biography supplies no exact employment intervals or graduation year for the degree, and it does not establish current business holdings.

The county’s audit for the year ended June 30, 2024, transmitted in July 2025, includes a repeat payroll-control finding. The board’s response disputed the lack of a specific statutory citation and described divided payroll responsibilities; auditors emphasized compliance with county policy and documentation requirements. The corrective-action table names Hendrix, then board chairman, as the responsible contact for purchasing and payroll findings, with September 1, 2025 as the anticipated completion date. That date records a plan, not proof that deficiencies were corrected. Naming him as contact does not establish personal receipt of improper payments or a criminal finding.
The county dates Hendrix’s election history to 2016, 2020 and 2024. Value News reported that he returned unopposed in 2024 for a third term beginning in January 2025. That account carries a county public-information writer’s byline. Independent reporting confirms his selection as the board’s 2025 chairman. The dated chairmanship should not be treated as a permanent office. The current county roster identifies Hendrix in District 2, Dan DeLozier in District 1 and Ron Burrows in District 3. Each holds a district-elected seat on the same countywide board.
INCOG’s August 17, 2026 roster lists Hendrix as a Rogers County commissioner on its board. DeLozier and Burrows are also listed. INCOG is a voluntary regional association providing planning and coordination across member governments, including transportation and community development. This connection places Hendrix in a forum where county priorities meet neighboring jurisdictions. Membership establishes participation in a regional governing body; it does not transfer the independent powers of other counties or cities to him. The roster does not supply his original appointment date.
The county credits Hendrix with leading its rural broadband effort, supported by American Rescue Plan Act funding. Independent reporting in April 2022 described the board’s approval of an Atlas Broadband proposal for Ruby Estates and Hendrix’s acknowledgment that a broader countywide system would need additional funding. A September county release subsequently reported connections installed for residents there. It credited information technology director Brett Williston with developing the hybrid approach and identified Atlas Broadband as the installation partner. Together these sources distinguish a commissioner’s advocacy and funding role from technical design and private delivery. They document an initial project, rather than demonstrating that every underserved county household ultimately received service.
The county’s road-update page places the Winganon Causeway work under Hendrix’s District 2 and describes it as a project supported by multiple funding sources, underway since November 2023. Its later updates report the road reopening on November 4, 2025, with remaining work, followed by a January 8, 2026 statement that the project was complete. Those dated updates matter because reopening and final completion are separate milestones. They are county-reported outcomes; they do not establish a final audited cost or that Hendrix alone delivered the project.
On July 14, 2025, Hendrix moved to fund the Heritage Hills Golf Course interlocal agreement for fiscal year 2025/26. The minutes specify $125,000 from the county Use Tax fund. DeLozier seconded, and both recorded votes favored approval. The minutes were approved July 21. This is a documented public funding decision connecting county resources to a recreation institution. It is an authorization in meeting minutes, not evidence of a completed payment, a personal donation or private ownership by either commissioner.
