Dana Walton

Chief of Staff, City of Tulsa

A campaign manager turned mayoral advisor, with a background in legislative political organizing.

Dana Walton is the City of Tulsa’s chief of staff. She managed Monroe Nichols’s 2024 mayoral campaign, entered his administration as deputy chief of staff and was announced as chief of staff on March 3, 2025. Her documented connection to the mayor spans campaign organization and the work of his administration.

Advising the mayor

The City’s promotion announcement describes Walton as the mayor’s chief advisor on priorities and issues. Its earlier appointment notice assigned the deputy role strategic and project-management work. These descriptions establish staff responsibilities, not an independent elected mandate or blanket authority to approve expenditure. Specific decisions need their own delegated authority or approval record.

Political organizing before City Hall

A July 1, 2020 North Carolina Democratic Party announcement identifies Walton as executive director of its House Democratic Caucus. The Oklahoma Eagle’s December 2024 account independently connects the Tulsa appointee with that prior caucus role, helping distinguish her from unrelated people with the same name. Exact beginning and ending dates remain unestablished. The City and Eagle report a political-science bachelor’s degree from the University of Wyoming; neither account supplies a graduation year.

A reported political committee role

In August 2026, Tulsa Flyer identified Walton as chair of Tulsa Forward PAC and reported that the committee contributed to Pete Regan’s Council campaign. This remains an attributed report here; the underlying organization statement and amended financial filings still need reconciliation. The PAC and City administration are distinct institutions. Holding a political role alongside a City job does not, by itself, establish use of public resources, improper coordination or misconduct.

The Nichols campaign connection

The City identifies Walton as manager of Nichols’s 2024 mayoral campaign. An October 31, 2024 Frontier report also quotes her as a campaign spokesperson explaining its fundraising momentum. That is evidence of a public communications role within the campaign. Campaign receipts belong to the committee and do not establish Walton’s compensation or personal income. The existing shared relationship record separates this campaign work from the later City appointment.

How a funding recommendation moves

A February 3, 2026 HUD Community Development Committee memorandum copied Walton among senior City officials. The accompanying submission describes a committee recommendation moving through mayoral review and then City Council consideration. Being copied documents her place in the administrative information flow; it does not establish that she selected grantees or personally approved awards. The attachment contains recommendations, not evidence that each amount was subsequently paid.
