Pete Patel

Director, Downtown Tulsa Partnership; president and CEO, Promise Hotels

A hotel executive connects private development, downtown governance and national hospitality-policy advocacy.

Pete Patel leads Promise Hotels and serves on Downtown Tulsa Partnership’s governing board. His documented work includes hotel development with Ross Group, the Tulsa Club restoration, historical university trusteeship and congressional testimony seeking changes to pandemic business relief. His spouse and business partner, Tina Patel, directs the company’s finances.

What his roles allow him to decide

Pete Patel is listed on Downtown Tulsa Partnership’s governing board, affiliated with Promise Hotels. The board’s stated responsibilities are organizational governance and fiscal oversight. This is collective nonprofit oversight: the listing does not give him independent authority to enact ordinances, levy taxes or direct city departments. His separate position as Promise Hotels president and chief executive concerns the company’s development, investment and operations. Those business responsibilities operate within company and contractual arrangements; the title alone does not establish sole ownership or unilateral control of every hotel.

From family hospitality to a hotel company

Paresh “Pete” Patel told a House subcommittee in September 2020 that his family immigrated from India in 1979. His company biography identifies a bachelor’s degree in management and marketing from Oklahoma State University. Independent reporting places his upbringing in El Reno, where his family operated a motel. Pete and Tina Patel began their own hotel venture with a Best Western in Sand Springs in 1997. In his congressional testimony, Pete dated the founding of Promise Hotels to 2008. The earlier hotel venture and the later company founding are separate milestones.

Pandemic decisions and congressional advocacy

At the September 25,2020 hearing on PPP forgiveness, Patel said the travel collapse had forced layoffs and that his businesses used Paycheck Protection Program funds mainly for payroll and utilities. He described changing guidance and complicated forgiveness applications, urged another round of assistance and asked Congress to broaden access to the Main Street Lending Program for asset-based businesses such as hotels. These are his statements to lawmakers, not an independent audit of expenditures or a finding about eligibility. The testimony documents a business owner seeking policy changes relevant to his own industry; it does not establish the final amount borrowed or forgiven.

A business partnership with divided responsibilities

Tina Patel is both his spouse and a business principal, a relationship documented by independent reporting and company records. Promise identifies her as chief financial officer, responsible for financing, accounting, risk management and budgets. Hotel Management’s March 2025 interview describes Pete’s focus on operations and development and Tina’s financial and banking work. This is a consequential institutional relationship because both participate in running and financing the enterprise. It does not establish their exact equity shares or the ownership arrangements of individual property companies.

Downtown construction and historic reuse

Public Radio Tulsa reported in July 2015 that Promise Hotels and Ross Group were announcing a Hampton Inn & Suites downtown. Patel connected the project to the district’s growing mix of residents, dining and shopping. A different joint undertaking restored the Tulsa Club building as a hotel. Oklahoma Magazine’s May 2019 account describes Ross Group’s acquisition and collaboration with the Patels, the restoration’s use of a historic tax credit and the hotel’s opening that April. The evidence connects private hotel development to downtown tourism and architectural reuse. It does not establish a particular tax-credit payment, the partners’ equity split or an audited economic return.

Education and industry connections

A June 2024 university announcement identifies Patel as an Oklahoma State University-Tulsa trustee. That dated record establishes service at that time, without supplying a verified current term end. A biography submitted for his 2020 congressional appearance lists Tulsa Regional Chamber board service during2013–2018. His2020 testimony also identifies membership in the Asian American Hotel Owners Association. These are distinct institutional relationships, not evidence that he controls the university, Chamber or association. The family business also entered national policy discussion through Tina’s January 2026 testimony on hotel franchising, access to capital and the proposed American Franchise Act.

Recent business direction

In March 2025, Hotel Management reported the Patels’ emphasis on managing costs and raising room rates in response to pressure on hotel margins. This was their stated business strategy, not a verified measure of subsequent profitability. The following month, Tulsa Regional Chamber reported their groundbreaking for an airport convenience store through TNP Fuels, alongside their airport hotel interests. That report documents a new venture and planned development; it does not independently establish the store’s completion or final expenditure.

What the nonprofit return reports

Downtown Tulsa Partnership’s return for the fiscal year ending June 30,2025, filed May 13,2026, lists Pete Patel as a director in Part VII, Section A, page 7, row 14. The calendar 2024 compensation columns report $0 from the organization, $0 from related organizations and $0 in estimated other compensation. These are reported US-dollar amounts for that nonprofit disclosure, not his total income, hotel compensation, assets or net worth. The latest indexed filing was checked; the index cautions that amendments may not always appear.

Interpretation

How the connections fit together

Patel’s documented roles connect hotel operations, downtown governance, university service and advocacy for the financing rules affecting hospitality businesses. His development partnerships explain why downtown conditions matter commercially; his congressional appearance shows one route by which that business experience enters policy debate. These overlapping interests warrant attention to the capacity in which he acts. They do not, by themselves, establish coordination among institutions, preferential treatment or misconduct.
