Jay Krottinger

Vice chair, Tulsa Performing Arts Center Trust; theatre producer

A theatre-producing partnership connects with public arts governance, university service and property redevelopment.

Jay Krottinger is vice chair of the Tulsa Performing Arts Center Trust and a co-founder of Tanninger Entertainment, formerly Square1 Theatrics. His documented work includes Broadway producing partnerships, service on a university arts advisory board and a Quincy hotel project covered by an adopted public redevelopment resolution.

Public arts governance

Jay Krottinger is vice chair of the Tulsa Performing Arts Center Trust on the institution’s current roster. The City records his initial appointment on April 20, 2022 and a scheduled term ending June 30, 2028. The trust operates the performing arts center, hosts and produces performances, supports facility improvements and makes arts grants. Its finance, audit, compensation and governance committees situate the vice chair within collective oversight. The PAC separately identifies a CEO. This board position does not establish unilateral authority over bookings, staff or contracts. The City describes mayoral appointment with Council approval for appointed trustees.

Music education and an early business career

The University of Central Oklahoma lists Krottinger on its College of Fine Arts and Design advisory board. Its biography dates his bachelor’s degree in music to 2006 and his master’s to 2012, and identifies him as the School of Music’s first Distinguished Alumnus in 2016. A March 2014 Oklahoma Magazine profile described him as a founding producer of Square1 Theatrics and chief operating officer of IQ Surgical in Tulsa. That article documents a historical business role, rather than current employment at the medical company.

A recorded public development decision

On July 8, 2024, Quincy, Illinois councilors voted 11–1 to authorize a redevelopment agreement for a proposed hotel in the former Illinois State Bank building, naming Tanner and Krottinger as developers. The adopted resolution replaced an earlier $500,000 commitment. It provided separate 50/50 revenue-sharing arrangements: hotel/motel taxes up to $750,000 over ten years, and project tax-increment revenue up to $750,000 through December 31, 2033, each ending sooner if its cap was reached. The first depends on generated hotel taxes; the second begins after a certificate of occupancy. These are conditional reimbursement ceilings, not documented payments or personal income.

The producing partnership

A 2019 company announcement says Krottinger and Ryan Tanner formed Square1 Theatrics in 2012 and identifies Tanninger Entertainment as its subsequent name. The same release announced Patricia Chernicky as a co-owner and described Tanninger Companies as the parent. These are the company’s descriptions of its structure; they do not disclose ownership percentages or personal earnings. The parent’s current biography describes Krottinger as founder, chief operations officer and chief technology officer. The PAC’s occupational listing independently connects its trustee to Tanninger Companies.

Credits through named production groups

The Broadway League’s Internet Broadway Database records Krottinger’s credits through specific producing partnerships. It lists Pippin’s 2013 Broadway production under Square1 Theatrics, Come From Away’s 2017 production through Demos Bizar / Square 1 Theatrics, and Oklahoma!’s 2019 revival with Square1 as an associate producer. The Outsiders opened on Broadway on April 11, 2024, with Tanninger Entertainment among its co-producers. These credits establish participation in production groups. They do not make him the sole producer, author or owner of the shows.

Family, business and civic institutions

Christine Eddington’s April 2024 Luxiere feature identifies Krottinger and Ryan Jude Tanner as spouses and producing partners, alongside Pat Chernicky. The relationship matters here because both spouses have documented institutional roles in the same business. Tulsa CARES currently lists Chernicky as an advisory director. Oklahoma Magazine identified Krottinger as a co-emcee of its 2014 Red Ribbon Gala. The resulting connection spans commercial theatre and a Tulsa service organization; gala participation and an advisory role are distinct from executive control or evidence of a particular donation.

Interpretation

What the network explains

Krottinger’s strongest documented connections join professional theatre production, university advisory service and public arts oversight. The Quincy resolution also shows a business project interacting with another city’s development incentives. These roles explain institutional access and responsibilities without demonstrating coordination among the institutions, a conflict violation or improper use of public authority.
